Schematic overview of the dialysis set-up. After priming both blood and dialysate circuit and after coating the test membrane with plasma, 3 L of PVP solution, continuously mixed, was recirculated at 37 °C at the blood side at a blood flow rate QB of 400 ml/min. Samples of the PVP were taken from the pool before and after the experiment. The dialysate was prepared by the AK200 and circulated at a flow QD of 500 ml/min. Before entering the membrane contaminant was infused at a flow Qinf of 10 ml/min by means of a pump. Samples from the dialysate were taken just before the membrane at 5 and 55 min. Ultrafiltration QF was set at 0 ml/min
