Suramin inhibits the expression of TGF-β1 and Smad3 phosphorylation in a rat model of peritoneal fibrosis. TGF-β1 levels in lysates from peritoneal tissues were determined by the ELISA (a). Peritoneal lysates were subject to immunoblot analysis with antibodies to phosphorylated Smad3 (p-Smad), Smad3, or GAPDH (b). Expression levels of p-Smad3 were quantified by densitometry and normalized with total Smad3 (c). Expression levels of Smad3 were quantified by densitometry and normalized with GAPDH (d).
