Hypertension was defined as blood pressure ≥ 140/90 mmHg based on at least two measurements or regular use of antihypertensive drugs. Diabetes mellitus was diagnosed by a physician previously or by 2 measurements of fasting glucose of 126 mg/dL or more. CVD included cerebrovascular disease, coronary arterial disease, congestive heart failure, and peripheral vascular disease
