Table 1 Inclusion and exclusion criteria for the SARC-HD study

Eligibility criteria

 1. Aged ≥ 18 years

 2. Hemodialysis treatment ≥ 3 months

 3. Provided free and informed consent

Exclusion criteria

 1. Presence of musculoskeletal or other abnormalities that impair examining physical function

 2. Medical contraindication for carrying out the battery of physical function tests

 3. Uncontrolled heart disease, and very recent hospitalization during baseline assessment (≤ 1 month)

 4. Pregnant or breastfeeding
